IronmasterUK spotting stand demo

Dumbbell work is great for getting range of motion in your upper body training, but it comes with one big downfall… getting the dumbbells up in the first place. At best, there’s the pain of resting heavy dumbbells on sore quads. At worst, you risk wasting precious energy before you’ve even started your first rep.

The Ironmaster Dumbbell Spotting Stand is an innovative solution to the problem of training alone when you’re doing heavy dumbbell work.

They help keep your workouts safe without compromising the depth of your reps.

You’ll never have to drop down to a weight you know won’t truly challenge you. These spotting stands let you lift heavier weights so you can keep progressing even as you reach the end of the rack.

Made from high quality steel and built to be robust and durable, the Ironmaster Spotting Stand is designed for your Ironmaster Quick-Lock Adjustable Dumbbells, but can hold any conventional dumbbells upright.

Whatever weight of dumbbells you work with, these spotting stands will free you up to lift heavier and push harder without wasting energy on getting them into place.

Why use a Dumbbell Spotting Stand?

IronmasterUK Spotting stands with other dumbbell examples

One of the downsides of training with dumbbells in a home gym is getting them off the floor and into place for the first rep. You can see how this spotting stand will erase that challenge. It’s exactly like having a human spotter there to pass you your dumbbells (except you know it’ll be 100% reliable every time).

Highly Adjustable

Adjustable saddles so your dumbbells are always within reach, whether you are in a flat, decline, incline, or upright position. The saddles can be raised or lowered from 54.5cm to 95cm with the locking pull pins and they can even swivel up to 45 degrees. Ironmaster added welded handles on the rear of the saddles to make them quick and easy to adjust.

Heavy Duty

These Dumbbell Spotting Stands can easily accommodate up to 59 kgs per side. We’ve got pro bodybuilders on our customer list, which should tell you something! We use high quality materials for kit that will last you a lifetime.

Versatile

If you add the Barbell Adaptor to the Spotting Stand (purchased separately), you can use the Ironmaster Barbell (or a standard barbell) for pressing, pushing, and overhead press work. No home gym should be held back by its equipment. You should be focusing on your workout and not worrying about your kit. No stress, no fuss, no frustration.

“When I moved I had to start working out by myself, so I got the spotting stand. This is one solid piece of kit! It was just what I needed so that I can go HEAVY. No more bouncing weights off my knee or dropping them when I can’t finish my set. The stand is adjustable in height and my Super Bench fits perfectly between the uprights.” – C Herring

Exercise using the Ironmaster Dumbbell Spotting Stand

Ready to commit to the heavy lifting life? The Ironmaster Spotting Stand will give you the support you need.

IronmasterUK Chest

Dumbbell Press

Train your chest by setting the Super Bench to the desired angle after dropping it into the Spotting Stand yoke. Instead of using your legs to help get the dumbbells into position, lift the dumbbells off the Spotting Stand so they’re to the sides of the chest and a 90 degree angle is formed with your upper arm and forearm.
Squeeze your chest to push the dumbbells up until your arms lock, hold for a second and return to the starting position. When your set is completed, safely return the dumbbells to the saddles (no need need to drop the dumbbells and risk injury or damage to your floor).

IronmasterUK Chest

Dumbbell Fly

Work your chest from a different angle. Get into position as above, holding dumbbells with your palms facing each other when your arms are fully extended. Slightly bend your elbows and lower your arms to the sides in a wide arc until you feel a stretch in your chest. This movements should be from the shoulder, not the arms. Squeeze the chest to return your arms to the starting position, keeping a slight bend in your arm.

IronmasterUK Deltoid

Dumbbell Shoulder Press

Hit your shoulders by positioning the Super Bench in the upright position in the Spotting Stand. Lift the dumbbells from the stand to your starting position at shoulder height and your palms facing forward. Drive the dumbbells upward, palms remaining forward, until your arms are locked. Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the starting position.

IronmasterUK Deltoid

Arnold Press

Named after Arnold Schwarzenegger who used this press variation in his shoulder training repertoire. Similar to the standard dumbbell shoulder press, but starting with the dumbbells in front of you at upper chest level, elbows bent and your palms facing your body. Raise the dumbbells to the straight arm position above your head while rotating your palms until they face forward. Pause and then lower the weights to the starting position while rotating your palms towards you.
Simply drop the Ironmaster Super Bench into the Spotting Stand special frame yoke to easily expand your home gym’s capabilities.

Dumbbell Spotting Stand

  1. The Spotting Stand is a game changer. The first rep doesn’t put all the usual strain on the shoulders. Decline presses are especially easier than whatever acrobatics are typically required to get into starting position. Easy to change height and rotation when switching between exercises. Even when the gym opens back up, I’ll probably workout at home on dumbbell day!

  3. As even Lynas knows, maximal pressing strength and chest development benefits from heavy dumbbell pressing as accessory work.

But set-up sucks when you train alone in the garage. You waste energy jacking them down and up with your knees, and every set you take to failure (and drop) risks your wrists, elbow and shoulders.

There’s few solutions out there, mainly J hooks and DIY self-spot chain systems, both of which are inadequate for a beast-man like me.

A few years ago when I won big In Vegas, I paid through the nose to import Shermworks DB self-spotters from the US, to fit my Ironmaster quiklocks, but didn’t like the time-consuming set-up or having to hold down the release trigger while repping.

Still searching for a solution, I became aware of the IM spotting stands, but was put off by these stands’ size and price. I ummmmed and aaaaaaaheed for ages

12 months ago Ii finally took the plunge and bought them. I also made my own DB dump boxes out of scrap marine ply, structural pine and stall matts, to fit over the horizontal spotter stand section perpendicular to the bench (on the floor).

Although it takes 5 minutes to properly set up, this system solves the oft-cited drawback with heavy DB pressing at home. You’ve gotta play with the height and angle of the stands but when sorted, it works just like a human hand-off, and when the set is complete i can safely drop the DBs into my drop boxes without externally torquing my wrists, shoulders and elbows.

Despite their size and price, they’re worth it. Buy them.. Buy them today.

  4. The dumbbell spotting stand for my SB is an excellent addition to my Ironmaster home gym! It has a ridiculously small footprint too! Going heavy and risking injury were always a reason I shifted away from dumbbell workouts especially chest and shoulders. Problem solved. Decline dumbbell presses are now not an issue. It also increases your awareness as you do your reps and limits any sort of wacky form to your dumbbell antics. How so? Even though you have ample room between the spotting stand and your full range of motion, the perception of making sure you are not banging against them helps with concentration and maintain a perfect/near perfect form. I have had Ironmaster quick lock dumbbells for years sitting in the dust and with the pandemic, its been brought to life and the spotting stand is something I could not do without!

  5. Man what a great piece of equipment. I was somewhat ahead of the curve with the home gym thing but it’s always been difficult to do heavy dumbbell flys or even presses (particularly decline) without assistance &/or setting the dumbbells on the ground. The saddles easily accommodate my largest hex dumbbells (wish I had found IronMaster prior to getting a full dumbbell set). My only regret is not getting this sooner.

  6. I had never used or even seen a dumbbell spotting stand before I started buying Ironmaster equipment and researched the spotting stand. I went back and forth for months before finally pulling the trigger. As I get older, I am always looking for ways to reduce the risk of injury to my shoulders and back. The spotting stand is an amazing piece of equipment. I use it mainly for flat and incline dumbbell press and standing dumbbell curls. This stand makes getting into your initial starting position SO much easier. You don’t even realize the strain it takes to get into that initial position, until you have one of these and no longer feel it! I also have the barbell adapter and use that to spot standing EZ curls. Again, helps preserve my back by not having to bend over to lift the curl bar to its starting position every set. When I initially got the spotting stand, I had a traditional two legged bench and found the spottting stand quite stable, even though it was not being held down by the superbench. I have since purchased a superbench PRO and there is not an ounce of wiggle. This is an excellent, often overlooked, piece of equipment.

  7. Super heavy duty and a pleasure to use
I just received this today and did my first benchpress work out. it’s super awesome and I can adjust it perfectly to where I need it to benchpress either incline, flat, or decline bench pressing or shoulder presses. Quality is top notch and metal is a very thick gauge. I own most of Ironmaster‘s products and only have a couple more things to purchase

  8. Once you try it
Once you try it you will wonder how you ever worked out without it. Heavy duty and excellent build quality. Easy to adjust and lets you save that necessary energy to bang out a few more reps vs wasting it getting the weights up. It takes up some good real estate but is worth it!

  9. Game Changer….
As a continuously certified CPT since ’97, one of the most significant “truths” I have learned is that in addition to consistency, it is not just about training with intensity but also training smart. Training longevity requires injury reduction. These stands alleviate heavy ground to set positions for flat and incline bench and make solo declines possible. Stands also provide a safe way to dump weights when necessary allowing one to go for that extra rep with confidence. Like all of my Ironmaster gear (and it is considerable), these stands have been a great addition to my home gym.
